Paint Pumpkins and Enjoy a Live Piano Accompaniment to 10 Silent Films at Krasl Art Center October 8

 

SEPTEMBER 13, 2022. ST. JOSEPH, MICH. — Krasl Art Center (KAC) and the Coastline Children's Film Festival (CCFF) have combined forces for the third annual Flick-or-Treat. There are two evenings dedicated to Halloween-themed classic films this year. 

 

Head to KAC in St. Joseph on October 8 to decorate your own pumpkin and enjoy 10 projected silent films with a live piano accompaniment from Dr. Larry Shanker! Started in 2020, Flick-or-Treat is an evening to enjoy classic films and live music with a Halloween theme. Get into the holiday spirit all day this year with KAC and CCFF!

 

From 11 am – 12:30 pm, paint your own pumpkin at KAC during Family Day. This event will be outdoors, so dress according to the weather and also dress for mess! Leave your pumpkins outside to dry and help us decorate our grounds, for the film screening at 8 pm. 

 

Pull up a blanket, grab a chair and enjoy popcorn, coffee, hot cocoa from Red Arrow Roasters while you experience these classic films with the whole family on the Oval Lawn. Bring blankets, chairs, and friends to this family-friendly outdoor fall event! Arrive at 6:30 pm to enjoy warm beverages, films begin at 7:30 pm. KAC is located at 707 Lake Boulevard, St Joseph, MI. A $2 suggested donation supports CCFF and KAC collaborations. In the event of rain, the event will be on October 9.

 

The 10 classic silent short films projected onto KAC’s south-facing wall are accompanied by an improvisational piano performance from Dr. Larry Shanker, Executive Director and Music Specialist for the Brookview Montessori School.

This year’s feature film, Jason and the Argonauts(1963) will be screened indoors at Coastline’s storefront space in the Flynn Theatre Building at 5861 Sawyer Rd in Sawyer, MI, on October 15 at 6:30 pm. When Tom Hanks awarded Ray Harryhausen a special Oscar in 1992, he remarked, “Some people say Casablanca or Citizen Kane. I say Jason and the Argonauts is the greatest film ever made.” This classic is usually cited as the high-water mark of Ray Harryhausen’s career. It is one of those rare films with real appeal for viewers of all ages. Enjoy refreshments and spooky board games at an Open House from 12 – 4 pm before settling in for this fantasy adventure feature.
