Richard “Dick” Burnside, 87, passed away on Saturday, April 14

Richard “Dick” Burnside, 87, of Stevensville, went to be with his heavenly father on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Hanson Hospice Center. He went peacefully, surrounded by his loving family.

He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 66 years, Ruth Jeannette; children, Donald (Polly), Becky and Roy (Cindy); nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is welcomed home by his parents, Lloyd and Anna; grandson, Sheldon; great-grandson, Drew; two brothers and one sister.

Richard was an excellent tool maker and tool room foreman at Wolverine Metal Stamping for 38 years, then part time at Great Lakes for 18 years, a total of 56 years. Completely retiring at 85 years old. He took great pride in his work. His attitude was “if it is broken – you fix it”. He was also a United States Army Veteran.

Richard loved his family dearly and leaves them with many good memories. Like his special ham for so many holidays. He loved the outdoors, nature, fishing the big lake, deer hunting and bowling. One accomplishment was skiing on one ski. He loved working in the yard and taking care of the flowers with his wife. He enjoyed spending time with her and did not want her far away.

Richard met his Lord and Savior later in life when Dwayne Beggs became his friend. He loved his church family at First Church of God. He was a friend to everyone and will be greatly missed.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, April 19, 2018, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd. St. Joseph, MI. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Youth Group at First Church of God.
