Jane Landis Obituary
Jane Landis, 98, died peacefully on April 9, 2025. She was born Edith Jane Wettstein on April 10, 1926 in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas F. Wettstein and Edith Jennie Bardo. She was raised in Keokuk and attended high school in Keokuk and Grier School in Tyrone, PA; and two years at the University of Chicago.
On November 1, 1947, she married WWII veteran Maurice Desmidt Landis of Chicago in Keokuk, Iowa. They also resided in Chicago, Olympia Fields, IL and Sister Lakes, MI.
She worked in the Fancy Goods (yarn department) at Marshall Fields in Chicago, as a data processor in Chicago Heights, IL, the Federal Reserve Bank in Chicago and Inter-City Bank in Benton Harbor MI. She also was a breeder and exhibitor of English Mastiffs (Sidetrack Farm). She loved playing the piano. She was a member of the Sister Lakes area Progressive Home Extension club for many years.
She loved being a mother and grandmother. She is survived by eight great-grandchildren, eight grandchildren and her four children: Priscilla (Jeffery) Gilroy-Green of Frankfort, IL; Edith (Richard) Francois of St. Joseph, MI; Paulette (Alex) Rodriguez of Chesterton, IN; and Thomas (Debbie) Landis of Sister Lakes, MI.
She was preceded in death by her husband, and two brothers John Bardo Wettstein, Thomas Forrester Wettstein, nephew Blair Wettstein and two great grandchildren, twins Josephine and Jude Wolf.
