Joan P. Gobert Obituary
Joan P. Gobert, 88, died Tuesday, August 27, 2024, in Mount Dora, Florida.
Joan was born in Meadville, PA, on November 22, 1935, to the late Coyt Henry and Ethelyn Wilkes Henry. After graduating from Meadville High School, she earned her RN degree at Meadville City Hospital School of Nursing in 1956. Her nursing career was long and varied, including in the emergency room, as a company nurse, and at a nursing home, but the majority of her career was at the office of pediatricians, Dr. Marshall Feeley and Dr. James Skinner in St Joseph, MI. She retired from the Area Agency on Aging in St. Joseph where she traveled Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren counties, visiting and caring for the needs of her clients.
Joan was a faithful believer in Jesus Christ and was an active member of Stevensville United Methodist Church for over 40 years. She was also a long-time member of PEO—an organization that provides scholarships to women for higher education—where she served as chapter president. She diligently studied the Bible and helped others do the same as a discussion leader with Bible Study Fellowship. Joan also joined the Myrtle Rebekah Lodge 60 at the age of 18. You would often find Joan reading a book. She loved to read and never left the house without a book in her hand. She also loved to sew, cross stitch, crochet, and quilt. She created many beautiful handicrafts that she gave to her family and friends or to decorate her church. She played bridge every month for over 30 years with the same group of friends.
Joan is survived by a son, Kerry “Chip” Gobert (Barb) of Lake City, MI, a daughter, Karen Gobert of Mount Dora, FL, and a grandson, Keegan Gobert (Alysse) of Hillsboro, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her husband William Gobert to whom she was married for 52 years; a sister, Margaret Bortner; and a granddaughter, Taylor Ann Gobert.
A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 11AM, at Stevensville United Methodist Church, 5506 Ridge Rd., Stevensville, MI, 49127. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 10AM until the time of service. The burial will take place at Hickory Bluff Cemetery.
