Linda Ruth Holm Obituary

Linda Ruth Holm, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on January 31, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on June 2, 1945 to Miller and Ruth Shown, Linda lived a life filled with love, fun, and an unwavering dedication to both people and animals.

Linda was a proud corrections officer for the State of Michigan, where she served for over 20 years. A graduate of Flat Rock High School, she was known for her strong spirit, compassion, and willingness to help anyone in need. Whether it was a friend, a family member, or a stray animal, Linda always found a way to lend a hand.

Linda had a deep love for animals, spending much of her time raising birds, breeding and rescuing dogs—especially her cherished Maltese companions. Her beloved dog, Patches, who preceded her in death, held a special place in her heart. Linda’s passion extended to collecting Betty Boop memorabilia, country line dancing, attending social events where she never met a stranger, and riding Harleys, embracing the freedom of the open road across the state of Michigan. She was devoted to her family and never missed an important moment in her grandchildren’s lives, cheering them on from the sidelines, at every game, graduation, and event, arriving in her classic, two-tone El Camino sporting a Betty Boop shirt.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Miller and Ruth Shown; her brothers, Lou, Richard, and Doug Shown; and her beloved grandson, Riley Johnson.

She is survived by her loving children: Vicki Johnson (Jason DeVoir), Sherry Hiler (Todd Hiler), Susie Sutter (Dan Sutter), and Jeff Lee (Tammy Lee). She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Ryan Johnson (Caitlin Johnson), Alec Hiler (Allie Pohler), Megan Hiler (Spencer Wilson), Hudson Sutter, Dakota Sutter, Beckham Sutter, Lincoln Sutter, Lennox Sutter, Ashley Lee Spence (Rich Spence), Natasha Lee, Amanda Lee (Daine Shaw), Tiffany Lettinga (Ryan Lettinga), and Hunter Lee, as well as numerous great-grandchildren. Linda is also survived by her siblings: Vicki Guinn (Larry), Connie Fuchs, Robert "Bobby" Shown (Darlene Shown), Debbie Shown, and Jimmy Shown, along with countless extended family members and dear friends.

Linda’s legacy of kindness and care lives on in the animals she saved and the people she loved. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to the ASPCA to continue her work of rescuing and helping animals in need.

A Celebration of Life open house will be held on Friday, February 7th, from 12:00 to 3:00 PM at Knight’s Steakhouse (600 E Liberty St, Ann Arbor, MI 48104). In honor of Linda, guests are encouraged to wear clothing featuring animal print, fringe, sequins, or anything flamboyant—a fitting tribute to her vibrant spirit.
