Sammie Cook Obituary
Sammie Cook passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 25 at the age of 90. He was born in Missouri and moved to Benton Harbor in his early teens. He married Lois Morris, and they enjoyed 60 years together until she died a number of years ago. They had one child, Sam Cook.
All those who knew Sammie could tell that he was a kind and gentle man. He was also known for his generosity and good sense of humor. He was a hard worker who was not afraid to take on any job. He was also always ready to help others in need.
One thing that helped shape his personality was what he learned from his study of the Bible. He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses over 20 years ago. He enjoyed sharing what he learned with others in the community. It was the Bible’s promise of a resurrection of the dead to a paradise earth that especially helped him when his wife died. That hope continues to comfort his family and friends at this time.
The family is thankful for the kind care that he received at Caretel Inns in St. Joe. They also especially appreciate the care that he received at Royalton Manor in St. Joe since April of this year. The staff really showed their heartfelt desire to help even though that was a very challenging time during his rapid decline. We also greatly appreciate the help from Corewell Health Southwest Michigan Hospice & Palliative Care.
Sammie is survived by his son, Sam (Desiree) Cook, grandson, Brandon (Jennifer) Cook, and granddaughter, Stacia (Michele) Zazzeroni. He is also survived by other family members that he loved dearly.
