Steven Allen Cartter, age 72, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2026 in St. Joseph, MI.

Steve was born on January 9, 1954 to Harold and Margaret (Emhoff) Cartter in Benton Harbor. A lifelong resident of the area, Steve married the former Nancy Smalley on June 28, 1975. “Pookie-Do” and Nancy shared 30 years of marriage before Nancy’s home-going in 2006 (one day short of 20 years before Steve’s).
Steve spent many decades as an over-the-road truck driver, serving multiple regional and national carriers. Steve retired from trucking in 2017. Steve loved his dogs, especially his current pal, Diggie. His dog companions were often with him both at home and while he was out on the road.
Steve is survived by his sister, Kathy (David) Golladay; niece, Connie (Joe) Carroll; nephew, Dan (Juleen) Golladay; and several great nieces and nephews. Along with his wife, Nancy, Steve was also preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Margaret.
