Virginia C. Ferguson Obituary

Virginia C. “Kate” Ferguson, 82, of St. Joseph, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026.

Kate was born on March 23, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, to Anthony and Bernice (Wazdrag) Brzoza. She graduated from Notre Dame High School and went on to work for more than 30 years as a real estate secretary. On December 14, 1991, she married the love of her life, Robert Ferguson. They shared a devoted and happy marriage until his passing in 2023. Kate was a member of First Church of God, where she found joy in singing with the choir. She especially treasured time spent with her family and her cherished furry companion, Bonnie.

Kate is lovingly remembered by her children: Kirsten (Keith) Adani, Kimberley (Steve) Enders, Frank (Kristy) Hammerschmidt, David (Trudy) Hammerschmidt, and Tom Hammerschmidt. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kyle and Adam (Audrey) Adani, Amy Enders, Andrew (Nycole) and Morgen Hammerschmidt, and Jack Hammerschmidt; her great-grandsons, Bennet and Liam; and her brother Tony Brzoza.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ferguson; grandson, Mark Adani; and sister Kathleen Rothgery.
