Berrien County Marine Division Application Deadline Extended to Jan 31, 2016

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department has extended the application deadline for Marine Deputies.  Applications will be accepted beginning January 21, 2016 to January 31, 2016 (postmarked or delivered) for the 2016 boating season.

Required: Must be at least 18 years of age or older, high school diploma or GED, and out of high school at least one year. Must also be able to pass a swim test. Must possess a valid Michigan vehicle operator’s license and able to pass a complete background check.

Desired: Ability to read and comprehend policies, procedures, rules, regulations, laws, memos and related court forms. Ensure appropriate deputy response behavior and performance while conducting correctional activities. Ability to act quickly and use good judgement during emergency situations. Ability to work well with others and follow directions. Mechanically inclined a plus. Boating knowledge and/or experience helpful, but not required.

Duties: Under the supervision of the Marine Lieutenant or his designee, perform responsible marine law enforcement and investigation work pertaining to waterways in Berrien County.

Hours: Deputies will work approximately 40 hours per week, with weekends and holidays mandatory. Training will begin on the weekends in April, with the close of duties shortly after Labor Day.

Rate of Pay:  $10/hr.

Application Deadline: All applications must be postmarked or received in personnel by January 31, 2016. Applications can be downloaded from the Berrien County web site at: www.berriencounty.org, or picked up from Personnel Dept. at the County Administration Office located at 701 W. Main, St. Joseph.

Note: This is a temporary part-time position working a maximum of 1,000 hours per calendar year. There are no benefits.
