Narrative:
The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office conducted a countywide warrant sweep this week targeting individuals wanted for domestic violence related offenses. The coordinated effort resulted in 10 arrests – 5 felony, and 5 misdemeanor – with all suspects being lodged at the Berrien County Jail pending court appearances. In total, Deputies made nearly 50 attempts-to-locate subjects on outstanding domestic violence warrants.
This warrant sweep was part of a special enforcement initiative brought to the Sheriff’s Office as an idea by one of its Deputies and launched by Sheriff Heit in recognition of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The operation involved deputies from the Sheriff’s Office enforcement division, who worked diligently to locate and apprehend individuals with outstanding warrants for domestic violence related crimes.
“Domestic violence has no place in our community,” said Sheriff Heit. “These warrant sweeps send a clear message: our office is committed to protecting victims and holding offenders accountable. We will continue to use every resource available to ensure that justice is served and that survivors of domestic abuse know they are not alone.”
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that these enforcement actions are part of an ongoing effort to address domestic violence year-round, not just during awareness month. Deputies also continue to partner with victim advocacy groups and community organizations to connect survivors with resources and support services.
The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office remains dedicated to enforcing the law, promoting public safety, and supporting victims of domestic violence through both enforcement and education.
