Free Colorectal Cancer Screening Kits Available at Lakeland

Lakeland Health will provide community members with free OC-Light® screening kits. This quick, simple test detects hidden blood in the stool, a first step in screening for colon cancer. Results of the screening are mailed to the participant. According to the American Cancer Society, colorectal cancer is the second-leading cause of cancerrelated deaths for men and women in the United States. On a local level, 89 community members were treated for colorectal cancer at Lakeland last year, making it among the most common types of cancers in southwest Michigan. The good news is that screening tests can find colorectal cancer early, when it is highly curable. In fact, regular screenings can even prevent many cases of colorectal cancer by finding certain types of polyps before they have a chance to turn into cancer.
