Home Depot Veterans Donation

The Berrien County Veterans Service Office has partnered with Home Depot and Habitat for Humanity to help a Niles Veteran in need.
Stephen Gunder, Specialty Assistant Manager for Home Depot Benton Harbor, introduced the Hope Builds program to the Veteran Service office with an invitation to submit some applications to benefit area veterans.

Willie Smoot of Niles, an Army Veteran of the Vietnam Era, was selected to receive a donation of all building materials needed to have a ramp added to his home. Paul Donavin, a DAV Volunteer driver for the Berrien Veteran Service Office, heard about the project and jumped in to coordinate with Mel Buescher who leads his work crew from Habitat for Humanity to take care of the labor.

The build will take place the morning of, Thursday October 30th, and rumor has it that Home Depot has a few surprises in store for the Smoot family.

This is just one example of the many generous individuals, churches and businesses that are reaching out to honor veterans as we approach November 11th.
