Home Intruder Caught in the Act!

On Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at 212am St. Joseph Township Police responded to a call of an attempted home invasion in the 200 block of Hoover.    At 250am officers were dispatched to  the 100 block of W. Delaware after being advised of a subject who had entered a home and had ran out after being confronted by the home owner. 

At this time all local agencies assisted in setting up a perimeter and State Police Trooper Joel Service and his K-9 partner Patch responded to the scene and began to track the suspect.  At 458am officers received another call of a home invasion in the 500 block of So. Ottowa.  Trooper Service and K-9 Patch again began a track of the suspect.

At 559am Trooper Service and his Partner Patch located the suspect in a garage in the 500 block of Montezuma.  The suspect, an African American male 33 years old, was taken into custody.  He was transported to the Berrien County Jail and lodged on multiiple charges.

It is believed that this suspect is the same suspect involved in the recent home invasions that were reported in the Lincoln Avenue and Maiden Lane areas of St. Joseph Township.

His name is being withheld pending arraignment.

St. Joseph Township Police were assisted by the St Joseph Dept of Public Safety, the Benton Harbor Dept of Public Safety, Benton Township Police, the Berrien County Sheriff’s Dept., Berrien County Dispatch Center and Michigan State Police.  Trooper Joel Service and his k-9 partner Patch did an outstanding job in tracking the suspect for over three hours.
