The Krasl Art Center will open its doors to neighbors Monday, November 6, from 5-7pm to share updates and receive feedback on its plans for the Sculpting Community project, scheduled for groundbreaking in the spring of 2018.

Sculpting Community is an exciting project in which the Krasl Art Center grounds will be re-designed to be more inclusive and welcoming. American sculptor Richard Hunt has been commissioned to create a gateway sculpture to downtown St. Joseph and the KAC campus. An event green will accommodate programs and events. A plaza on the south side of the property will provide opportunities for relaxation, and universal walkways will provide access to the site from both the north and south. Comprehensively, the Sculpting Community project provides interaction and engagement to guests of all ages and abilities. 

Additionally, the Sculpting Community project has taken into consideration the acquisition of properties at 702 and 720 State Street. The residence at 702 State Street will remain residential and the KAC will utilize 720 State Street for administrative functions. A proposed parking plan for the east side of the block has been developed for potential future construction.

The KAC will submit an application for Planned Urban Development to the city of St. Joseph in the upcoming months. This open house and neighborhood meeting is designed to garner community feedback prior to going before the city, allowing the KAC to consider the needs of its neighbors first. Neighbors within a 300' radius of the center will be invited. The meeting is free and open to the public.
