Krasl Art Fair on the Bluff 2018
On July 14-15, 2018 the Krasl Art Center will welcome 200 artists to the Krasl Art Fair on the Bluff. In its 57th year the event continues to welcome art patrons to Lake Bluff Park overlooking Lake Michigan creating an art fair experience to remember.
With more than 800 artists applying for the 2018 fair, the Krasl Art Center announces a professional panel of jurors who will score applicants during the full day jury. The five jurors are Richard Burd, Professor Governors State University, College of Arts & Sciences (retired); Mary Burke, artist; Brian Edlefson, member of the Krasl Art Center board of directors and Global Design Manager, KitchenAid Marketing; Daniel Juzwiak, jewelry designer and artist; and Mark McCrone, business owner and woodworking artist.
As a prestigious fine art/fine craft fair, the Krasl Art Fair on the Bluff relies on the expertise of the jury to provide a fair and objective review process; ultimately selecting 200 excellent artists who will exhibit during the event.
Richard Burd
Richard earned his BA from the University of Michigan and a MFA from the Institute of Design at the Illinois Institute of Technology. While at IIT, he learned the art of "seeing" from four American photographers, Aaron Siskind, Arthur Siegel, Joe Jachna and Harry Callahan. He worked as a staff photographer for the Chicago Tribune and was professor of photography at Governors State University, Illinois. He has exhibited his photographs and photoGrarms in Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan and Ohio. His retrospective in photography A Life in the Light was held at the Tall Grass Arts Association Gallery in Park Forest, Illinois. He continues to create photograms in the darkroom and he travels around the world photographing. He presently lives in Bridgman, Michigan.
Mary Burke
Mary has had an interest in art since she was 12 years old. Having earned a BA from the University of Chicago and a MFA from the University of Minnesota, Mary has participated in numerous art fairs, juried shows, and gallery exhibitions. A celebrated artist, Mary's work can be seen in the Chicagoland area and Ludington, MI. Her work has been featured in Newsweek magazine's internet art gallery, as well as The Chicago Art Scene, Suite Home Chicago, The American Art Collector and The Artful Home publications. Mary is now focused on gallery work and is currently working on a large body of paintings for a show at Zia Gallery.
Brian Edlefson
Brian earned his BFA from Western Michigan University and a MFA from Yale University. As an art director, designer, and educator, Brian influences organizations to leverage design's ability to communicate across a variety of surfaces (architecture, environments, products, print and interactive experiences). Brian leads design for KitchenAid's global marketing team; previously he was an Assistant Professor of Visual Communication at the University of Notre Dame where he explored the evolution of typography - from pictogram to letterform and emoji. His work has been recognized in many national and international competitions (New York Art Director's Club, Communication Arts, Creativity, Graphis, HOW, Print, STEP Inside Design) and was chosen for inclusion in the National Design Archive at the Library of Congress.
Daniel Juzwiak
Daniel first studied architecture, but after an inspiring art elective, he completed his training in Metal Work-Jewelry Design at the University of Michigan. Daniel is drawn to make jewelry that holds a strong line, and accomplishes a technical feat. Using traditional black-smithing methods, his technician's hand is evident in every painstakingly hand-forged stainless steel ring, and uniquely tension-set gemstone.
Mark McCrone
Mark has been a woodworker for over 40 years making custom furniture and has worked with a variety of woodworking masters. His passion is taking natural wood and working with its own properties to display its unique beauty.
Jurying will be held on Wednesday, February 21 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm (with the exception from 12-1 pm) in the north training room of the Mendel Center on the campus of Lake Michigan College in Benton Township. The public is welcome to attend to observe the jury.
About the Krasl Art Center:
The Krasl Art Center is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization. The Krasl Art Center is located in downtown St. Joseph, Michigan overlooking Lake Michigan. The KAC has three public galleries, five studios, a library/lecture room, a black and white wet darkroom, a gift shop, and a permanent collection of 42 works of sculpture.
