Sourdough House & Coffee Bar Brings Southern Comfort and Fresh-Baked Bread to Benton Harbor’s Arts District
Cornerstone Alliance Entrepreneurial Services proudly announces the grand opening of Sourdough House & Coffee Bar, an artisan bakery and Southern-style café at 10 a.m. on October 30, 2025, at 234 Territorial Road in Benton Harbor’s Downtown Arts District. The café will welcome guests Wednesday through Saturday, 7 AM to 3 PM.
Rooted in generations of Southern hospitality and culinary tradition, Sourdough House began as a cottage food bakery and, with the guidance and resources of Cornerstone Alliance Entrepreneurial Services, has grown into a full-service café. It now offers naturally leavened sourdough bread baked daily, signature espresso drinks, and a locally inspired Southern café menu—all crafted in-house using traditional methods and regional ingredients.
The grand opening celebration will include complimentary tastings of signature sourdough breads and sandwiches, coffee drink specials, and collaborations with local businesses such as Honey Hound Bee Farms, Creation Coffee, Sticky Spoons Jam, and more.
“This café is the realization of a dream built on family recipes, community support, and the belief that food connects us all,” said Becky Atkinson, founder of Sourdough House and a third-generation Southern cook turned entrepreneur. “Through the support of our loyal customers and Entrepreneurial Services, I was able to turn my vision into a thriving business. We’re here to nourish and welcome—to offer a space where bread breaks barriers and hospitality leads.”
Unique to the region, Sourdough House & Coffee Bar will be the only local destination offering fresh, naturally fermented bread alongside Southern comfort food and craft coffee. The menu highlights include:
- Artisan sourdough loaves & focaccia
- Buttermilk biscuits
- Southern-style breakfast & lunch sandwiches
- Seasonal items like peach & burrata focaccia and honey lavender lattes
Beyond serving great food, Sourdough House also represents the entrepreneurial spirit driving Benton Harbor’s revitalization. With ongoing mentorship from Cornerstone Alliance Entrepreneurial Services, Becky plans to mentor aspiring food entrepreneurs and women entering the workforce, creating pathways for others to follow in her footsteps. The business will initially hire one full-time associate, with plans to grow as demand increases.

Looking ahead, Sourdough House plans to host sourdough-making classes, offer private evening event rentals, and develop an in-store market featuring products from the same local makers that supply their kitchen—further strengthening ties within the regional entrepreneurial network.
