SPRING UPDATES FROM
RICHARD HUNT STUDIO CENTER
LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
In 2023, when Richard Hunt gifted his Benton Harbor Studio to Krasl Art Center, it was a bittersweet moment. I had spent over a decade working with Hunt on various projects and discussing his legacy to the arts and our community. The gift of his studio marked this lovely human being’s soon passing. But it also marked his desire for rebirth.
This past month, I have worked alongside Hunt Studio Coordinator Chad Eckersley cleaning and coordinating the last vestiges of ephemera remaining in the studio. These are the items of longtime artist in residence Jésus Lopez which he asked us to temporarily store until he was re-settled at his new home. Among the items were many wonderful photographs of artists, students, and youth - all in the studio. The place was full, and full of life. These images were inspiring. They inform the spirit of Hunt’s gift. Richard Hunt Studio Center is Hunt’s artwork in and for Benton Harbor.
RAISING FUNDS TO OPEN THE DOORS IN 2026

Richard Hunt Studio Center in Benton Harbor, Michigan
This past January, I shared the great news of a lead gift for $50,000 by Krasl Board Officer J. Paul Fletcher. Since then, we have raised an additional $72,200 in community support.
Every gift to date has been made by local individuals championing the opening of the doors at Richard Hunt Studio Center in 2026. They understand the work at hand and are willing to give. Through their generosity, we are 49% there!
Campaign Goal: $250,000
Funds Raised to Date: $122,200
Every contribution to this campaign helps and we have 51% to go. Help us make our goal and open the doors this year.

Note: There are many ways to give beyond immediate cash donations, including gifts of appreciated stock, donor advised fund (DAF) contributions, planned gifts or bequests. To explore your options in detail, please contact Monica Garvey, Development Manager: monica@krasl.org.
