This summer has memorable musical experiences in store for those in Southwest Michigan!

The Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra proudly presents A Salute to America at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3. This annual celebration features a mix of patriotic favorites, film scores and iconic American works with the 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky timed to an outstanding fireworks display to cap this spectacular celebration!

The A Salute to America concert will feature a variety of food trucks to give concert goers a choice of food, snacks and drinks to purchase, if desired. Food trucks include Crepes by the Lake, La Chula Mobile, Ben’s Soft Pretzels and Lost Coast Shave Ice. The SMSO will also have a tent where adults over 21 (ID required) will be able to purchase beer and wine.

The end of July brings Peter and the Wolf,  a family-friendly mini concert event. Prokofiev’s enchanting and timeless classic is tailored for young ears, ideal for budding music lovers ages 3-9.

What has become a highly sought after summer concert series, the SMSO’s summer Pop-Up! Series will continue at various outdoor locations. The Symphony has expanded its venues for these beloved free concerts for the community; visit the SMSO website at www.smso.org to keep up to date with times and locations of these concerts.

 

 

A Salute to America, Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at 8:30 p.m.

  • Single tickets are $30 for adult lawn seating, $40 for reserved seating, $10 for youth ages 6-17. Children ages 5 and under are free. A limited number of tables are available for purchase and include 8 tickets and 2 VIP parking passes. Call the office for more details or to reserve free tickets for children ages 5 and under..

 

Peter and the Wolf, Saturday, July 27, 2024. Two shows: 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

 

  • Each showing for Peter and the Wolf is limited to 200 tickets. The prices are $30 for adults, $10 for youth ages 6-17 and children ages 5 and under are $5. A free parking pass for use during the selected concert is included with each adult ticket purchased as well as complimentary carousel tokens. Tickets for these performances are limited so reserve your seat now!

 

Sponsors for the summer concerts include The Dr. Scholl Foundation, The John DeVries Agency, The Tiscornia Foundation, Combined Insurance Agencies, The Schalon Foundation, the Michigan Arts & Culture Council, and the National Endowment of the Arts. The Symphony is able to provide musical programming that creates lifelong experiences with the help of sponsors such as these.

Tickets are available by calling the SMSO office at 269-982-4030, visiting the box office at 513 Ship St., St. Joseph, or the website www.smso.org. Tickets will be available at the gate on the day of the event, however, tickets to each of the Peter and the Wolf concerts are limited.

Save with multi-ticket packages and single ticket discounts where applicable. Rates are available for groups, seniors, and children age 5 and under. Contact the Box Office directly for more information.

The July 3 A Salute to America concert will be held at the Shadowland Pavilion located in Silver Beach County Park, 101 Broad St., St. Joseph, while the July 27 Peter and the Wolf concerts will be held at the Shadowland Ballroom at Silver Beach Center, 333 Broad St.,St. Joseph.

* Gates open an hour before the beginning of the July 3 concert; doors open a half hour before the July 27 concerts.

** Concertgoers should bring a chair or a blanket on July 3 unless purchasing reserved seating/tables.

*** On July 3, concert tickets, unless a table was purchased, do not include parking at Silver Beach County Park.

****Also, a county parks parking pass does not allow concert goers to park in the private, north parking lot; this is reserved for SMSO musicians, staff, food trucks, and people who have purchased a table.
