NARRATIVE:
On Monday, August 31, 2026, at approximately 8:54 p.m., first responders were called to Silver Beach County Park for a water rescue involving a 7-year-old male who was missing and had last been seen in the water.


First responders, along with the U.S. Coast Guard, immediately began a search for the child. At approximately 10:08 p.m., the child was located near shore.


First responders and Medic 1 personnel immediately began CPR and other life-saving measures at the scene. The child was transported by Medic 1 Ambulance to Corewell Health Lakeland Emergency Department for further treatment.


VICTIM:
A 7-year-old male from South Bend, Indiana.

Despite the continued efforts of first responders and medical personnel to save his life, those lifesaving measures were unfortunately unsuccessful. The victim passed away at the Emergency Room at approximately 11:15 PM on August 31, 2026.
