1 Car accident in St. Joseph Township

TIME:     2:15 pm at  2727 S. Lakeshore Drive

Officers responded to the call of a woman trapped by a vehicle.  Upon arrival officers discovered a female victim pinned between a vehicle and garage foundation.  Medic and fire personnel were able to use airbags to lift the vehicle and free the victim, identified as Nancy Worthington, 80 years old.  She was taken by Med Flight to South Bend Memorial with severe injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, Charles Worthington, 80 years old, sustained minor injuries. 

It is believed while backing out of the garage the driver accelerated prior to his wife shutting the car door.  This caused the car door to strike the initial garage door, and as the car spun around, she was ejected from the passenger seat, being pinned between the vehicle and neighboring garage.
