AlVan Humane Society Executive Director Announces Retirement South Haven AlVan
Humane Society announces the retirement of their Executive Director, Cathy Thaler effective January 10, 2014. Thaler approached the board in September with her wishes to retire, agreeing to stay on until a replacement could be found. Thaler, who has served as their Executive Director since 2011, also served on AlVan's Board of Directors for a total of 15 years, including terms as President from 20032005 and Vice President from 20062011. “AlVan is near and dear to my heart. Although I am stepping down as Executive Director, I will continue to support this amazing organization and its loving and caring staff in any way I can,” stated Thaler. "Cathy's hard work, compassion, and dedication have helped so many animals in our community get a second chance at finding a loving home. Our shelter staff, volunteers and board members are very proud of what AlVan has accomplished under Cathy's leadership and look forward to continuing her good work," stated Kelly Elvin, Board Treasurer and past President. After a 4month search, the Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Will Anzenberger has been hired as Executive Director of the AlVan Humane Society beginning January 3rd. Before joining AlVan, Anzenberger most recently served as the Development Director for the Kauai Humane Society in Hawaii. He has extensive background in working with animal welfare organizations, including serving as a consultant for the Santa Cruz SPCA and director of law and advocacy for the San Francisco SPCA. “Will brings to AlVan a demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with coworkers, volunteers and the community. He is a creative, energetic and forwardthinking director with significant experience in fundraising and business management,” stated AlVan Board President Lisa Galdikas. “I am excited to be working with the AlVan Humane Society staff, volunteers, and Board in building upon the recent achievements of the organization. While there is hard work ahead in achieving the best outcomes for the animals of Allegan and Van Buren counties, knowing there is an engaged, committed Board of Directors, a supportive community and a dedicated staff SUBJECT: Executive Director Retirement will make my job much easier,” stated Anzenberger. Anzenberger holds a BA degree from Boston College and JD/MBA from the University of Wisconsin.
