On Wednesday, December 3, 2014, officers of the St. Joseph Department of Public Safety were dispatched to 825 Lions Park Drive on reported armed robbery. Responding officers were quickly able to determine the incident was not random. Rather, the victim was specifically targeted. Investigating officers were able to locate the suspects and obtained confessions from all three. The investigation revealed the three suspects, all known to the victim, planned to lure the victim out of his home for the purpose of stealing his Apple i-Phone 6 Plus in order to sell it for cash and use the proceeds to start up an on-line business. Once the victim was lured from his home, on the pretense of visiting one of the suspects at another location, the suspects assaulted him, threatened him with the toy pistol, took the i-Phone and left the area. The victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the assault, none of which required medical treatment. The incident has been turned over to the Berrien County Prosecutor’s Office for review and authorization of appropriate charges. The suspect names are being withheld pending authorization of the charges.
