“Al-Van Humane Society Announces Implementation of Meet Your Match® Adoption Program” Beginning Tuesday, September 2, Al-Van Humane introduces innovative method for matching dogs with potential adopters.”
South Haven, MI - Beginning today, Al-Van Humane Society is introducing the ASPCA’s Meet Your Match program to help bolster dog adoptions. Starting October 1st, the animal welfare organization will launch the Meet Your Match program for cat adoptions.
The program's Adopter Survey is scored against Meet Your Match’s Canine-alityTM and Puppy- alityTM assessments to assist adopters with the types of dogs that would best be suited for the adopter. Using a fun color-coding system, the survey and assessments fit together like the pieces of a puzzle, creating picture-perfect adoptions for shelter animals and their new owners.
“Meet Your Match is a fun, innovative way to use proven scientific animal behavior assessment tools to help potential adopters chose a companion animal by matching their preferences and lifestyle with the behavior, motivation, and activity level of the animal,” stated Executive Director Will Anzenberger. “Research has shown that while potential adopters might have a breed preference in mind, it is really a dog’s activity level and personality that will help the adoption and transition to home processes truly successful,” added Anzenberger.
Dogs are tested on their friendliness, playfulness, energy level, motivation and drive. The dogs are then placed into one of nine color-code canine-alities (See attached sheet). Ranging from a laid-back “couch potato” to curious “busy bees,” and then there are action-hero “go getter” types. The potential adopter is receives a color based on their preferences and lifestyle. During their visit, the potential adopter is given a purple, orange or green guest pass to match the pets that might suit them best.
