Berrien Springs High School IDDEA Program

As part of the BSOTPD Intoxicated, Distracted Driver Education Awareness (IDDEA) Program, we will have our GEM Car (electric car) at the Berrien Springs High School during the day on Thursday, April 10th, for members of the Jr. Class to use.  Participants will get a chance to drive and/or ride in this vehicle while wearing “fatal vision” goggles that simulate various levels of alcohol. Driving participants will operate the car through a course of cones in a school parking lot while wearing the special goggles and then they will go through the same course while “distracted” by occupants of the car.  While the initial goal is not to knock down any cones, the larger goal is to get the participants to think about riding with someone who may be too drunk to drive as well as the dangers of distracted driving.  This car is sponsored by various community minded businesses and used by several area police agencies.  Our Prom is this Saturday April 11th 2014.
