David Whitehead Obituary

David Whitehead, 93, of Stevensville, MI passed away Saturday, July 11, 2026 at Corewell Health Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph.

David was born on October 6, 1932, in Pinckney, Michigan, to Norman and Blanche (Denton) Whitehead. He grew up in Gregory, Michigan, graduated from Stockbridge High School, and attended Michigan State University for one year.

David proudly served his country in the United States Army for two years. Following his military service, he attended the Radio Electronics School in Detroit, Michigan, for one year. His training led to a position at radio station WHGR in Houghton Lake, where he met the love of his life, Sharon. The two were united in marriage on September 16, 1961.

In 1965, David began working for Heath Company in St. Joseph, Michigan where he assembled electronic kits. He dedicated 25 years to the company before it was sold. Afterward, he remained active in the workforce, holding a variety of part-time positions.

A man of deep faith and strong patriotism, David dearly loved his church and faithfully served in many capacities, including as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He enjoyed listening to patriotic and gospel music and found great joy in woodworking, gardening, bicycling, photography, and camping. David will be remembered for his unwavering faith, love of family, strong work ethic, and the kindness he shared with everyone he met.

David is survived by his wife Sharon Whitehead; sons Bruce (Kim) Whitehead and Douglas (Margaret) Whitehead; grandchildren Kerstyn (Brad) Burke, Brandon (Mckenzie Creed) Reith, Elizabeth Whitehead, Kyle Whitehead and Kelly (Nick) Kost; great grandchildren Paisley, Skylar, Raelynn, Clayton and Vivienne; and many nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents and brother Russell Whitehead.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, July 16, 2026 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Service, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI 49085. Burial will follow at Hickory Bluff Cemetery in Stevensville. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M., Thursday at the funeral home.
