“Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend”

Exciting News~ The Miss Southwest Scholarship Pageant will be a closed pageant for our “Miss” Southwest contestants only.  Only residents from Berrien, Van Buren and Cass Counties will be eligible to compete for the title of “Miss Southwest”.  The Miss Southwest Pageant is the only local preliminary title to Miss America. The winner of our Miss Southwest Pageant will go on to compete in the Miss Michigan pageant in June 2015 and will be a part of the Miss America Organization.  The Miss America Organization is one of the nation's leading achievement programs and the world's largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women. Last year, the Miss America Organization and its state and local organizations made available more than $45 million in cash and scholarship assistance. This assistance is not just for the handful of young women who become Miss America, but is available to the over 12,000 young women who compete in the state and local competitions as well.  Participating in the Miss America system not only helps you pay for college and prepare for a career, it also provides an opportunity to gain additional life experience, working on issues of importance to society, enhancing your personal and professional skills and developing your performance-related and other talents.

As Miss Southwest Michigan you will be involved in many community activities and speaking engagements. Throughout your reign, you will be focusing on the four points to the Miss America program style, service, scholarship and success.

The Blossomtime Festival/Miss Southwest will be holding an informational meeting on Tuesday, August the 26th at 6:00 p.m. at the Holiday INN in St. Joseph, MI.  The Blossomtime Festival is now accepting applications for the Miss Southwest Scholarship Pageant which is scheduled for October 18, 2014.  As of 2010, the Blossomtime Festival was awarded the only franchise in Berrien County to represent the Miss America Organization.

In addition to the Miss and Outstanding Teen competitions, there will be a pageant for young ladies between the ages of 8 and 12 who will compete for the title of Miss Southwest Pre-Teen.  And those, ages 4-7 will have a chance at becoming this year’s Miss Southwest Princess.  The Pre-Teen age group will have a private interview with the judges while the Princess hopefuls will enjoy a tea party giving their judges the opportunity to meet and get to know them in a more relaxed atmosphere.  All participants in both age groups will receive a tiara, many special gifts and an invitation to ride a float in the 2015 Grand Floral Parade.
