Fatal Accident US 12 between Red Bud Rd & Mayflower, Bertrand Twp

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Dept report responding to an accident involving 2 vehicles and a motorcycle where 1 subject was fatally injured.  The accident occurred on US Hwy 12 between Red Bud Trail and Mayflower RD at 0531 hours in Bertrand Twp.  A pickup truck, driven by a 28 year old male from Klamath Falls, Oregon, was travelling westbound and crossed the centerline striking an eastbound car driven by Lorelei Kickels of Dowagiac, Mi who was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Memorial Hospital So Bend by SMCAS Ambulance.  A third vehicle, a motorcycle, was also involved as the driver could not stop in time to avoid the vehicles/debris in the roadway.  The motorcycle driver was transported to Lakeland Hospital, Niles and was treated and released with minor injuries.  The cause of the accident is still under investigation and drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor. The Berrien County Sheriff’s Dept was assisted at the scene by SMCAS Ambulance, Bertrand Twp Fire Dept, Berrien County Accident Reconstruction Investigators, Mi Dept Of Transportation, Michigan State Police.  US Hwy 12 was closed for nearly 4 hours while the investigation and cleanup occurred.
