Greg William Kalin Obituary

Greg William Kalin, 65, of St. Joseph, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at home.

A celebration of life grave side service will be held at 11 am on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Spring Run Cemetery, St. Joseph. Memorial contributions in Greg’s name may be made to his daughter Ashley Brown to cover funeral expenses. Any donations that are raised beyond the cost of the funeral expenses will be donated to the American Heart Association.

Greg was born on August 1, 1960, to Glen Sr., and Joan (Smith) Kalin in Benton Harbor. He graduated from St. Joseph High School.

Greg spent his career working in the construction industry, beginning with Kalin Construction before dedicating many years to Reith-Riley Construction, B & Z Company, and later working in North Dakota at D & L Construction and Estvold Oilfield Services. After retiring, he moved back home to St. Joseph to be close to family. During retirement, he stayed active by starting Kalin Lawn Care and spending most of his days outdoors, rain or shine.

Greg lived every day to the fullest, and his infectious spirit lit up every room he entered. He befriended everyone he crossed paths with, and many were drawn to his vibrant personality. His sense of humor and sincerity kept things genuine and fun, so there was never a dull moment when spent with Greg.

A proud Harley enthusiast, Greg loved his motorcycle and often enjoyed solo bike trips or hitting the road with friends. When not riding his bike, Greg was likely in the garage, happily tinkering with anything that had an engine, from jet skis to four-wheelers. You name it, he could fix it, especially if he had a cold beer and rock n’ roll music to enjoy while doing so. He also loved a good game of darts, pool, or taking it easy and sitting around a campfire. Curious by nature, he also enjoyed watching the night sky and recording unusual sights, always eager to learn more about the world and what might exist beyond. Amidst the busyness, he always made time for those he loved.

Greg is survived by his mother, Joan Kalin; daughters, Jessica Ransom and Ashley (Nathaniel) Brown; grandchildren, Rory Ransom, Aubrey Ransom, Tristan Schramm and brother, Glen (Paula) Kalin, Jr.
