Maria Haisley is named Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year

Maria Haisley, RDN, CD, ACE-CPT and Health & Wellness Advisor at Martin’s Super Markets in partnership with Beacon Health System, has been named the Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year for the Northern Indiana Dietetic Association in the state of Indiana. Haisley recently assumed the title of director of the partnership’s Eat Smart. Be Well. healthy communities initiative.

The announcement was made on April 3 by Sue Dumm, MD, RD, CD of the Indiana Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and CPI-Chair Elect, Indiana Dietetics Association. The award is intended to recognize young Registered Dietitians (RDs) for superior leadership qualities and commitment to the profession of dietetics, as well as those achieving career goals while demonstrating dedication to the community they serve.

"I’m honored to have received this valued award," said Haisley. "I consider it a symbol of my commitment to my career and the overall passion I have for providing nutrition education for the community. This award further dedicates me to focusing my leadership skills and education to help develop the Eat Smart. Be Well. program, as well as expanding other educational opportunities to our community."

Nominees for the annual award must: be a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Indiana Dietetic Association; be age 35 years or younger as of May 1, 2014; be an RD; be active in professional associations; not have been previously selected award winner; have demonstrated concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the population.

"We are proud to have an RD of Maria’s caliber serve as our representative to the community through our joint partnership with Beacon Health System," said Amy Simeri-McClellan, Martin’s Director of Marketing. "The very qualities that earned her the title of Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year are the very same qualities that have already made her a valued resource for our customers and the communities we serve."

Before being named to direct the Martin’s Super Markets and Beacon Health System Eat Smart. Be Well initiative, Haisley most recently served as outpatient registered dietitian nutritionist for Beacon Health System affiliate Elkhart General Hospital. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics and completed her dietetic internship at Purdue University.

Martin’s Super Markets was founded in 1947 and currently has 21 stores in South Bend, Mishawaka, Granger, Elkhart, Goshen, Plymouth, Nappanee, Logansport and Warsaw, Indiana, and Niles, Stevensville and St. Joseph, Michigan.
