Mark R. Wheeler Obituary
Mark R. Wheeler, 63, of Saint Joseph, passed away unexpectedly of cardiac arrest, on Friday, July 3, 2026. He was born August 3, 1962 in Flint, MI to Richard and Alice (List) Wheeler. Mark moved to Cadillac at an early age and graduated from Cadillac Area Public Schools in 1980 and went on to graduate from Ohio Institute of Technology.
The family will celebrate Mark’s life with a memorial gathering from 1-3pm, Sunday, July 12, 2026 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., Saint Joseph. Smiles, laughter and of course “Wheeler” stories are expected. Memorial contributions may be made to the Saint Joseph-Lincoln Senior Center Wood Shop or to your local Humane Society. Mark was a man of remarkable intelligence, blessed with a brilliant mind that served him well throughout his career as an electronics engineer. He spent the last 26 years at LECO. His natural curiosity and passion for electronics made his work more than just a profession - it was one of his life's greatest joys. Mark always said he was a lucky man; his hobby was his job and his job was his hobby. Outside of work, Mark embraced the thrill of driving his motorcycles, where he never shied away from a little extra speed or a little tighter corner. But, despite his adventurous spirit, some of his happiest moments were the quiet ones spent at home with his wife, Shelley. He also loved his dogs and cat, who were very much a part of his family.
Mark leaves behind his wife of 37 years, Shelley (Keller) Wheeler, whom he married on August 19, 1989 in Cadillac, MI; his siblings, Jane (Phillip Sterling) Wheeler, Mary (Jim) Pals, and Jim (Gloria) Grant; his siblings-in-law, Corky (Bill) Potvin, and Paul (Julie) Keller; his mother-in-law, Elaine (the late Donald) Keller; several special nieces and nephews; as well as many great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family and life-long friends.
He is preceded in death by his siblings, Robert Grant, and Susan Smith; and his parents.
