Paul L. Stright Obituary

Paul L. Stright, age 96, of St. Joseph, Michigan (formerly of Stevensville) passed away Saturday, July 18, 2026, after a short illness surrounded by his family.

 

Visitation will take place on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 12:00 – 2:00 pm at the Starks and Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd. St. Joseph, Michigan 49085. Cremation has already taken place.

 

Paul was born on May 12, 1930, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Hayden and Ruth (Brown) Stright. On July 9, 1960, he married Doris E. Tuttle in Kenmore, New York. They had two daughters, Linda Stright of St. Joseph, Michigan and Nancy (Mark) Butler of Detroit, Michigan; and two grandchildren, Erin Butler and Colin Butler.

 

After graduation from Grinnell College (A.B.) and the University of Minnesota (PhD), Paul worked as an industrial research chemist in New Jersey and New York. Subsequently, he taught chemistry at the University of Minnesota Morris and retired after teaching chemistry for 20 years at Lake Michigan College. He spent the last 17 years enjoying life at the Whitcomb Retirement Residence.

 

He is survived by his daughters, grandchildren, and sister, Jean Davenport of Denver, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Doris, his parents, and brother Richard Stright.
