St. Paul’s Stevensville welcomes new pastor, principal

 St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and School, 2673 W. John Beers Road, has welcomed a new pastor and principal to its staff.

The Rev. Paul Schaewe has joined the Rev. Jesse Knox as associate pastor. He was installed at St. Paul’s on June 8.

Schaewe comes to St. Paul’s after more than 30 years at its sister congregation, St. John’s Lutheran Church, in Bay City, Mich. Prior to that, he led Our Savior Lutheran Church in Perry, Mich.

Schaewe earned his bachelor’s degree from Northwestern College and his Master of Divinity in 1989 from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. He and his wife, Kelley, have two grown children and three grandchildren.

New principal Justin Wasser comes to St. Paul’s from sister school, Trinity Lutheran School, in Nicollet, Minn. Before serving as principal and teacher at Trinity, he taught at Crown of Life Lutheran School in Warren, Mich.

Wasser was installed as principal and seventh and eighth grade teacher on Aug. 3. He and his wife, Kellsie, have three sons and a newborn daughter.

Wasser earned his Bachelor of Science in education with an emphasis in physical education from Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minn., in 2013.

“My family and I are excited to get to know and be a part of the Stevensville community,” Wasser said. “We look forward to hearing the local tips about how to survive the tourist-filled summers and the snowy winters!”

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and School has been serving the Stevensville community since 1899. The congregation currently worships at 9 a.m. Sundays and 6:30 p.m. Mondays. The school, a member of Southwest Michigan Lutheran Schools, offers Christ-centered learning for Christ-centered living for children in preschool through eighth grade.
