SWMI RACERS Giving Back to the Community

SWMI RACERS Looking Forward to 3rd Year of Giving Back to the Community SWMI RACERS Donate $3000 from 2nd Annual Superhero 5K to Boys & Girls Clubs of Benton Harbor St. Joseph, Mich.

This month, a local 501(c)3 non-profit organization heads into the third year of its commitment to promote running and walking as a means to stay healthy and active while supporting community events. The Red Arrow Club for Endurance, Running and walking Sports (SWMI RACERS) was formed on August 21, 2012 by a group of friends and co-workers. Since then, SWMI RACERS hosted four fundraising events and donated over $11,000 to organizations like Boys & Girls Clubs of Benton Harbor, Watervliet Athletic Boosters and Progeria Research Foundation - SWM Chapter.

In April, SWMI RACERS hosted the 2nd Annual Superhero 5K to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Benton Harbor. Over 150 runners and walkers of all ages braved the wind, many sporting superhero costumes. “I couldn’t believe I got third place! I felt like a real superhero running so fast!” explained Rowan, a BGCBH Club member who ran in the 1K Fun Run/Walk. SWMI RACERS members Marianne Groth, Andrea Hutchins and Ray Cox were on hand to donate $3000 to Brian Saxton, BGCBH CEO, along with a gym full of BGCBH Club members. “I was overcome by the reaction from the kids, they were so excited,” says Marianne Groth, SWMI RACERS President. “We are committed to achieve our goal to provide bleachers in the gym at the Fettig Youth Campus.”

SWMI RACERS’ commitment to the community goes beyond hosting events. Club members volunteered hundreds of hours of support to events throughout Southwest Michigan. Course creation, race direction guidance, timing assistance, and on-site volunteers are just a few ways that SWMI RACERS have impacted area events including: Kilometers for Cam, Chili Hop 5K, Run for the Buds, Girls on the Run, HCOG Camo Run, Pennies from Heaven 5K, Chemical Bank Race for YMCA, Maytag Ironman 70.3 Steelhead Triathlon, CFS 5K for 5 and more.
