Valentine’s Event Drew Crowds & Energy to Downtown Buchanan
Buchanan Business Boosters Report Surge in Visitors
Valentine’s Event Drew Crowds, Energy to Downtown Buchanan
Downtown Buchanan saw a surge of visitors, full restaurants, and a renewed sense of community pride during the Buchanan Business Boosters’ Valentine’s Day celebration, Fall in Love With Buchanan Again, held Saturday, February 14, 2026.
Several downtown restaurants reported strong demand well before the evening shopping and stroll officially began. Guests lined up for dinner at Hilltop Creekside Cafe nearly an hour before opening, while Thistledown and Row completely sold out and stopped accepting walk-ins due to high demand.
The event attracted visitors from well beyond the Buchanan area, with attendees traveling from Hartford, MI; Ligonier, IN; and even Chicago, IL, in addition to nearby communities including Niles, Granger, and South Bend. Many guests shared their excitement about seeing Buchanan “doing something like this,” and spent the evening walking downtown, shopping at multiple businesses, and visiting pop-up experiences including: Just A Bite Cake Goods, Bair Country Coffee Co., Buchanan Muncheez hosted by Edward Jones: Justin Nurenberg, A Sweet Dai, and Lion’s Club Holiday Treats.
Several businesses extended the celebration beyond the 4–8 p.m. window with daytime and evening programming. Glendora Bookshop hosted an author signing with Bruce Cashbaugh at 2 p.m., followed by an evening open mic night featuring local musician Logan Mitchell, who debuted an original song.
Union Coffee House offered a special Valentine’s drink and treat bundle throughout the weekend. Owner Molly Thornton said the weekend felt especially meaningful, noting not only the success of the drink, but the atmosphere it created. “The overall positive mood of community members coming in really stood out,” Thornton said. “People were happy to be out in their community, supporting the event and the businesses, and it really felt like people were proud to spread the love.”
Additional businesses, including McCoy Creek Tavern, The Sweet Shop, and McCollums, had notably increased customer traffic during the event. Visitors reported learning about the event through word of mouth, social media, and local news coverage, underscoring the power of collaborative promotion and community enthusiasm.
Organizers with the Buchanan Business Boosters say the success of Fall in Love With Buchanan Again demonstrates both the appetite for downtown events and the strength of Buchanan’s small business community when working together. Planning is already underway to build on the momentum created by this Valentine’s Day celebration.
