Vehicle Pursuit, Apprehension, and Seized Firearms

Narrative:
On 7/1/25 at approximately 9:40pm a patrol officer with the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a blue Cadillac for speeding on eastbound I-94 near the 22 mile marker in Lincoln Township. The driver of the Cadillac failed to stop when signaled to do so and a vehicle pursuit was initiated. The pursuit eventually reached Benton Township and the driver of the Cadillac crashed into a wooded area along US Highway 31 near Napier Ave.
The occupants of the Cadilliac fled the crash scene on foot. The sheriff’s department deployed police canines and drones to search for the vehicle’s occupants. All three of the vehicle’s occupants were eventually apprehended by police. In searching the Cadillac, police located and seized a rifle and a handgun.
A 25 year old male from Rockford, Illinois was lodged at the Berrien County Jail for fleeing/eluding, resisting/obstructing police, and several weapons crimes. A 20 year old male and a 24 year old female both from Rockford, Illinois were also lodged at the jail for resisting/obstructing police. The case has been forwarded to the Berrien County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
