Women's Service League Announces 55th Annual Charity Ball

Women's Service League Announces 55th Annual Charity Ball SAINT JOSEPH, Mich - Women's Service League (WSL) of Berrien County is holding it's 55th annual Charity Ball on Saturday, February 8th, 2014 at Berrien Hill Golf Club in Benton Harbor. This year, all proceeds will benefit The Herbie Clinic. The HERBIE Clinic provides free healthcare services to adults in our community who do not have any form of healthcare coverage – including government programs. The HERBIE clinic (named in honor of the late Dr. Herb Atkinson) was founded four years ago by Dr. Sherry O’Donnell and a group of dedicated volunteers to provide care for the body, soul and spirit of those in need. Housed within the Salvation Army building in Benton Harbor and run entirely by volunteers, including its Medical staff and administrators - the HERBIE Clinic is able to use all donations to go to directly to patient care in the form of medications, lab/testing supplies and some administrative/office supplies. Many of those served by the HERBIE clinic suffer from chronic illnesses that although manageable with regular health maintenance and relatively inexpensive medications - left untreated - can be life threatening and land many in the hospital. The HERBIE Clinic is also able to provide Vaccinations/ Immunizations, diabetic education, as well as spiritual support to patients with the assistance of the Berrien County Health Department and other area churches and organizations. Another benefit of the HERBIE clinic is that it provides many area nursing, PT and OT students the opportunity to serve the less fortunate members of their community - while gaining practical experience in a medical clinic. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. with a cocktail hour, followed by dinner and dancing. Price for the event is $80 per person or $150 per couple. We are excited to announce that local musician Mike Struwin will be entertaining us for the first part of our evening, followed by Midwest Family Broadcasting's own Mark Durocher who will be keeping the dance floor packed the rest of the night. For information on how to purchase tickets, please contact chairperson Deb Akins at duakins@comcast.net or visit our website at www.womensserviceleague.org.
